We did not set out to make an Angel Share alternative. We set out to understand what makes people stop and ask.

Every fragrance that has ever made someone turn around and say "what are you wearing?" has one thing in common. It is warm without being sweet. Rich without being loud. Familiar without being generic.

Spellbound started as a question. What combination of notes creates the feeling of being impossible to ignore? We tried 23 iterations. We brought in Indian cardamom and cinnamon to add the complexity that Western warm gourmands miss. We pushed the rum forward and pulled the vanilla back — so it smells rich, not dessert-like.

The name came from the first time we wore the final formula. By the end of a 2-hour meeting, four people had asked about it without us mentioning it once. That was the spell. We called the fragrance what it did.

23 Iterations

Getting the rum-cognac-cinnamon balance right without tipping into boozy or candy territory took 23 formula versions over 4 months. The Indian spice additions came in iteration 19. Everything before that was good. After that, it was Spellbound.

Oil Sourcing

The rum and cognac accords come from Swiss fragrance houses — the same suppliers used by major European houses. The cinnamon and cardamom are Indian-origin. The tonka is Brazilian. A genuinely global formula, made for Indian skin.

A Note from the Perfumer

“Warm gourmands are technically the hardest category to get right. Too much sweetness and they become dessert. Too much alcohol accord and they become bar soap. The magic window — where rum, spice, and wood coexist without competing — is narrow. Spellbound lives in that window. We know because we tested 23 versions to find it.”

The 42% extrait decision was not a marketing choice. At lower concentrations, the cognac and cinnamon heart disappear too fast. At 42%, the spell lasts all night. This is the version we always wanted to make.

Evening & Events (Best Use)

5–6 sprays: chest, neck, wrists. Apply 30 minutes before leaving. Spellbound takes 10 minutes to fully develop — you want it at its peak when you arrive, not in the car.

3–4 sprays on chest and one wrist. The warmth is softer but still present. Works for office and daytime whenever you want the benefit without full projection.

The Fabric Trick

One spray on your shirt collar before wearing. Fabric locks the base notes for 12+ hours. You will smell Spellbound on your collar even after showering.

The Maceration Rule

Give the bottle 2–3 weeks after you receive it. High-concentration fragrances need settling time. The rum-cognac-tonka accord deepens significantly after stabilizing. This is when Spellbound really becomes Spellbound.

Is this an Angel Share clone?+

No. Spellbound is an original God of Essence creation. It belongs to the same warm gourmand fragrance family, but has a different formula, different ingredient sourcing, and a different character. The Indian cardamom is unique to this formula. You might love both for different reasons. But they are not the same fragrance.

What does "extrait de parfum" actually mean?+

It refers to the oil concentration in the formula. Standard EDPs run 15–20% fragrance oil. Extrait runs 30–42%+. Spellbound is at 42% — more than double a standard EDP. This directly affects longevity, richness, and how the drydown develops. It is not a marketing label.

Is this suitable for women?+

Yes, and some of our best reviews come from women. On female skin chemistry, the apple and vanilla come forward, making it sweeter and warmer. The rum reads more like caramel. The result is a deeply feminine, sophisticated warm gourmand — sweet in the way good tonka is sweet, not in the way cheap synthetics are.

Why paraben-free? Does it change the scent?+

Parabens are preservatives. Removing them does not change the scent — it changes what you put on your skin. We use alternative preservation methods that meet IFRA safety standards. The scent is identical. Your skin chemistry is simply better off without parabens.

Can I wear this to the office?+

With a lighter hand, yes. 2–3 sprays gives you the warmth and character without the projection that would distract in a shared workspace. The scent itself — warm, sophisticated, spiced — is not offensive. The quantity controls everything.
