True Gentleman is a powdery iris perfume for men, made for the old money look. It opens with black pepper and bergamot. Then iris and lavender take over, soft and tailored. It ends in black vanilla and tolu balsam, warm with a thread of smoke. At 40–45% fragrance oil, one or two sprays last 12+ hours on skin and two days on a jacket.

All three put iris at the centre. Prada keeps it light and clean. Dior makes it soft and cool. True Gentleman frames the iris with black pepper at the start and black vanilla at the end. It is our own original formula, not a copy of either.

Cool air is where iris and vanilla shine. Stick to the number.
The 48-hour jacket trick
Spray once inside your jacket or coat lining from about 20 cm. It will still be there two days later. Skip light silk and spray the lining instead.
Don't rub your wrists
Rubbing heats the skin and flattens the iris powder before it opens. Spray, then let it dry on its own.
Give the iris two hours
The heart takes two to three hours to show itself. Judge it at lunch, not in front of the mirror.
The idea behind it
What does it smell like to have nothing to prove?
Old money doesn't announce itself. It doesn't flash or shout. You feel it before anyone names it. True Gentleman was built on that idea.
We chose iris as the anchor. It is slow and costly to make, and it smells like tailored wool and old libraries. Black pepper gives it a sharp first impression. Lavender keeps it clean.

Then we made the base heavier than usual. Our tests showed that Indian heat flattens a light vanilla base, so we built up black vanilla and tolu balsam until it held. That's why it gets better on a warm evening instead of falling apart.

What does True Gentleman smell like?
Woody, boozy and powdery, just as the label says. It opens with black pepper and bergamot. Iris and lavender make up the heart. Black vanilla and tolu balsam form a warm, slightly smoky base. Think of a wool suit, an old library and a glass of something dark.
How long does True Gentleman last?
In our wear tests it lasts 12 hours or more on skin and more than 48 hours on fabric. It reaches about six feet for the first few hours, then settles close to the skin. Heat, skin type and fabric all change the result.
Is True Gentleman a dupe of Dior Homme Intense?
No. It is an original God of Essence formula. It belongs to the same powdery iris family as Dior Homme Intense and Prada L'Homme. The pepper opening and the heavy black vanilla and tolu balsam base are its own. It is made at extrait strength for Indian weather.
What does "woody, boozy, powdery" mean?
It is the three-word summary printed on the bottle. Woody is the dry, warm structure. Boozy is the dark, liqueur-like warmth of black vanilla and tolu balsam. Powdery is the soft, dry iris in the middle, like the inside of a good suit.
Where does the smoky note come from?
From tolu balsam, a tree resin with a faint smoky, balsamic edge. It is background texture, like a fireplace in the next room. It is not the heavy smoke of an oud perfume.
How many sprays of True Gentleman should I use?
One spray for the office, on the chest under your shirt. Two for a date or a formal event: one on the neck and one inside your jacket lining. It is 40–45% oil, so more than two will fill the room.
Is True Gentleman good for office wear?
Yes, with one spray. The iris reads as polished and professional, not loud. In an open office with poor air flow, spray your chest, not your wrists. More in our office-safe perfume guide.
Does True Gentleman work in Indian summer?
Yes, if you keep it on fabric during the day. We made the vanilla and balsam base heavier than usual, so it holds in the heat instead of turning thin. Warm evenings are when it smells its best.
How is True Gentleman different from Noir Magnet and Dark Knight?
Noir Magnet is clean and woody-fresh, made for the working day. Dark Knight is dark oud and leather for big nights. True Gentleman sits between them: powdery, refined and made for formal wear. Many people own all three. See Noir Magnet and Dark Knight.
Is True Gentleman safe for skin?
