Kerala hibiscus was the breakthrough. We had been working with tropical fruit and rose combinations and they felt familiar — good, but familiar. When we introduced gudhal hibiscus into the heart, everything shifted. It added tartness, depth, and a specifically Indian floral character that passionfruit-and-peony simply cannot achieve. Pair that with gulabi rose from Pushkar and Mysore sandalwood in the base — then push the oil concentration to 42% — and Bomb Bae became something VS Bombshell could never be.

We tested 11 different hibiscus accords before finding the Kerala gudhal variant that made the formula work. Most hibiscus accords read as generic tropical-floral. Kerala hibiscus has a tartness and a warmth that is completely its own register. At 42% extrait concentration, it holds from 20 minutes into the drydown to 4 hours in. Nothing like it in the VS range.
